Endorphin Rush is what I call my tui na spinal reset which progressively lenthens, spreads, and rocks the spine. It activates the Chinese classical "back shu" points. The Chinese say these are transporting points which effect all the major systems of the body. Those systems activate by releasing endorphins. In addition to the physical alignment, it has this feel good effect for about a week.

Endorphins help you reduce pain, anxiety, fear, and worry. They help you feel good by producing more enzymes that specifically make up the communication system of the body. They are great for helping your body heal with chronic diseases.

When endorphins were first discovered the scientists "found the brain has receptors for painkillers which the pituitary releases under great stress. If an artificial painkiller such as morphine is given, it occupies more of the pain receptors in the brain; however, less natural painkiller is released. Then, when the artificial source is taken away, there are more empty pain receptors, causing the craving for narcotics and a withdrawal response." source: Role of Endorphins discovered in 1975.

Endorphin Do Count

Endorphin counts do add up. Help push the count over ten daily. Over time extend the mix of endorphins to include as many as possible weekly.

First, what you take in endorphins:

  1. 1 bite of chocolate - 1 (only 1, and only 1 bite)
  2. Quote ... over 300 chemicals are in chocolate. A study of 8000 male Harvard graduates showed that chocoholics lived longer than abstainers. Their longevity may be explained by the high polyphenol levels in chocolate. Polyphenols reduce the oxidation of low-density lipoproteins and thereby protect against heart disease. Recent research suggests that pure theobromine may be superior to opiates as a cough medicine due to its action on the vagus nerve. Chocolate also contains tryptophan. Tryptophan is an essential amino acid. It is the rate-limiting step in the production of the mood-modulating neurotransmitter serotonin. Enhanced serotonin function typically diminishes anxiety. Consumption of chocolate triggers the release of endorphins, the body's endogenous opiates. Enhanced endorphin-release reduces the chocolate-eater's sensitivity to pain. 3. chili peppers - 1-3 (the hotter the better)
  4. Hot Peppers contain capsaicin which ... Quote "when eaten, capsaicin stimulates the brain to release a neurotransmitter called substance P, which lets the brain know something painful is going on. The brain, 'thinking' that the body is in big trouble, mistakenly responds by turning on the waterworks to douse the flames. The mouth starts to salivate, the nose starts to run, the eyes might start to water and the face breaks into a sweat. The heart beats faster and the natural painkiller endorphin is secreted. In other words, Chile-Heads get a buzz!" Unquote source: www.g6csy.net/chile

  5. sun - 2 (only the brief warmth that activates it)
  6. Five to fifteen minutes in the sun daily convert to Vitamin D. This vitamin has been linked to reducing depression, pain, and lower back pain. It helps control blood pressure, heart disease, and lower cholesterol. It helps control multiple sclerosis and increases muscle strength. It reduces the risk of osteoporosis, hip fractures, and most cancers. Studies show breast cancer risk is reduced by 65 percent and prostate cancer by 80 percent. 18 to 20 major cancers show reduced risk with sunlight. Sunlight has been found to improve the immune system. Sunlight may be the best antifungal, antibacteric, and antiseptic. Low blood levels of vitamin D closely coorelate to obesity. Eighty percent of children with type 1 diabetes could have been prevented by vitamin D supplementation. Some compare sun and light treatment as better than prozac, statins, and the best form of chemotherapy. Source: Solar Power for Optimum Health written by Dr. Marc Sorenson.

  7. laughter - 2-3 (let yourself go, enjoy the moment)
  8. Studies by Dr. Lee Berk and Dr. Stanley Tan of Loma Linda University of California show that "laughing lowers blood pressure, reduces stress hormones, increases muscle flexion, and boosts immune function by raising levels of infection-fighting T-cells, disease-fighting proteins called Gamma-interferon and B-cells, which produce disease-destroying antibodies. Laughter also triggers the release of endorphins, the body's natural painkillers, and produces a general sense of well-being." Source: www.holisticonline.com/Humor_Therapy/humor_therapy_benefits.htm

  9. moment of enjoyment - 2-3 (swooning, captures imagination, art, music, drama)
  10. thrilling almost fear - 3-5 (like a roller coaster)
  11. Dr. Boecker from the University of Bonn in 2008 said, Endorphins "are activated when people are involved in romantic love affairs or when you hear music that gives you a chill of euphoria, like Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3. This idea of hugs, positive attitude, love, a romantic activity, good music, a great musical moment on through to the thrilling almost fear factor of doing something excitingly dangerous is a move from 2 through 5 of endorphins. Check out a link of that study under working out.

Second, what you give back endorphins:

  12. hugs, love - 2-5
  13. working out till you feel it - 2-4 (runner's high)
  14. Quote ... "Dr. Boecker and colleagues [in 2008 at the University of Bonn] recruited 10 distance runners and told them they were studying opioid receptors in the brain. But the runners did not realize that the investigators were studying the release of endorphins and the runner’s high. The athletes had a PET scan before and after a two-hour run. They also took a standard psychological test that indicated their mood before and after running. The data showed that, indeed, endorphins were produced during running and were attaching themselves to areas of the brain associated with emotions, in particular the limbic and prefrontal areas." 15. positive attitude - 2 (giving back the best, smile)
  16. acupuncture - 3 (or mediation, yoga, tai chi, ...)
  17. Many studies all over the world exist on the benefits of acupuncture, meditation, yoga, and tai chi chuan for releasing endorphins.

Keep a Count of Endorphins

Those are ten things ... make sure your score at the end of the day is over 10. Everyday get your endorphin rush. Endorphins release pain, anxiety, fear, worry, and, most of all, begin to feel good about yourself. And if you are struggling with a chronic problem, begin super charging your system with lots of endorphins.
